Brian Porter – 2013 Milton J. Samuelson Award nominee
Brian began working for BISM’s Rehabilitation Department in January 2012 as the Woodshop Instructor for the CORE adult residential training program. Brian’s presence was immediately felt as he went through orientation in the Rehabilitation Program and other BISM divisions. In July 2012, BISM’s Woodshop was officially reopened with Brian Porter managing the operation after it had been closed for several years. Brian was also asked to help teach white cane travel class and he gladly accepted the dual role of Woodshop Instructor and Travel Instructor. Brian discovered that he really enjoyed teaching travel class and recently applied and was accepted into an Orientation and Mobility Training program. Once completing the certification program, he will have the ability to train other people to teach travel.
